How to Tell When a Langra Mango is Ripe
Unlike most mangoes, Langra stays green on the outside even when fully ripe β so colour alone is not a reliable indicator. Instead, check for ripeness by:
-
Gentle squeeze β a ripe Langra will yield slightly to gentle pressure, similar to a ripe avocado
-
Fragrance β a strong, sweet aroma near the stem end is a sure sign of ripeness
-
Skin texture β the skin may develop small yellow patches or wrinkle slightly when fully ripe
How to Enjoy Langra Mango
-
Fresh & Simple β peel, slice, and enjoy the silky flesh on its own; the finest way to appreciate its pure flavour
-
Aam Ras β blend the pulp into a smooth, thick aam ras (mango pulp) and serve chilled with puri for a classic Indian summer meal
-
Mango Lassi β blend with yoghurt, a pinch of cardamom, and a little sugar for a rich, creamy mango lassi
-
Mango Kulfi & Ice Cream β use the pulp as a base for homemade kulfi, ice cream, or mango sorbet
-
Fruit Salads & Platters β slice and add to tropical fruit platters for a stunning centrepiece
-
Smoothies & Juices β blend into smoothies or fresh mango juice for a naturally sweet, vitamin-rich drink
-
Desserts β use in mango cheesecake, mango mousse, or shrikhand for an indulgent seasonal dessert
Storage & Ripening
If your mangoes arrive slightly firm, leave them at room temperature for 1β3 days to ripen fully. Once ripe, store in the refrigerator and consume within 2β3 days for the best flavour. Do not refrigerate unripe mangoes as this can affect the ripening process and flavour development.
Please note: as a fresh seasonal product, the exact number of mangoes per box will vary depending on individual fruit size. Weight is approximately 3kg.
