Our Story
More Than an Indian Grocery Store. A Place That Feels Like Home.
Sometimes life doesn't gently redirect you.
Sometimes it breaks you first—only to rebuild you stronger.
In November 2020, we moved to the UK with hope in our hearts and ambition in our minds. Like many families starting a new chapter, we left behind familiarity and began building a new life from scratch.
London became our first home.
We rebuilt our careers, adapted to a new country and embraced every opportunity that came our way. I continued working in the film industry through Farah Sameer Limited, while my wife Farah pursued her passion as a Waldorf Steiner teacher.
On paper, life looked promising.
But sometimes the path you plan isn't the path you're meant to follow.
Projects slowed, opportunities changed, and certainty slowly disappeared. There were evenings when we questioned everything.
Then one simple question changed our lives forever.
Do we go back—or do we build something new?
A Memory That Never Left
That night, I found myself thinking about a small kirana shop near my childhood home in India.
It wasn't just a grocery store.
It was where people gathered.
Where neighbours chatted.
Where the aroma of freshly ground spices filled the air.
Where you could stop for a cup of chai, pick up fresh vegetables, buy your favourite mithai or simply take a moment before heading home.
It wasn't about shopping.
It was about belonging.
It was about community.
It was about feeling at home.
And I realised that wasn't what I missed most.
I missed the feeling.
The Birth of Curry Kart
That single memory became an idea.
What if we could create more than an Indian grocery store?
What if we could build a place where people felt welcome the moment they walked through the door?
A place where quality mattered.
Where customers weren't rushed.
Where shopping felt personal again.
On 1 January 2026, that idea became reality.
Curry Kart opened its doors in Bournemouth.
Building Something We Believed In
We didn't come from a retail background.
We had no investors.
No supermarket experience.
No roadmap.
Just determination and a belief that if we genuinely cared about every customer, everything else would follow.
We built shelves ourselves.
We searched for trusted suppliers.
We tested products before putting them on our shelves.
We learned from our mistakes.
We improved every single day.
Every decision was guided by one simple question:
"Would we proudly buy this for our own family?"
If the answer was no, it never made it into our store.
More Than Groceries
Today, Curry Kart offers more than 1,000 carefully selected products, including:
- Premium Indian spices
- Rice, flour and everyday staples
- Lentils and pulses
- Fresh Indian fruits and vegetables
- Frozen favourites
- Dairy products and paneer
- Snacks, sweets and beverages
- Ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat favourites
We also offer online ordering and local delivery, making authentic Indian groceries more accessible to families across Bournemouth and the surrounding areas.
But products are only part of our story.
Our real purpose is much simpler.
We want every customer to feel welcome.
Our Promise
Whether you're visiting us for the first time or the hundredth time, we hope you'll feel the same warmth that inspired Curry Kart in the first place.
Take your time.
Browse the shelves.
Discover something new.
Ask us a question.
Share a recipe.
Tell us about home.
If you leave with a smile, we've achieved something far greater than making a sale.
A Family Business with a Big Heart
We're proud to remain an independent, family-run business.
Every product we stock, every customer we serve and every decision we make reflects the values we started with:
Quality. Fair pricing. Genuine service.
Receiving a 5-Star Food Hygiene Rating and the wonderful reviews from our customers has reminded us that honesty, hard work and kindness still matter.
Those achievements belong as much to our community as they do to us.
This Is Only the Beginning
Curry Kart isn't just a business.
It's our second beginning.
It's the result of resilience, hope and believing that difficult moments can lead to meaningful opportunities.
We're incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us, visited our store, placed an online order or simply recommended us to a friend.
You've become part of our story.
And as Curry Kart continues to grow, we hope to remain more than just an Indian grocery store.
We hope to remain a place that feels like home.
Welcome to the Curry Kart family. 🧡💚
