Sometimes a New Beginning Finds You
When our family moved to the UK in 2020, we thought we knew what the next chapter of our lives would look like.
We didn't.
Life has a way of changing the plans we make for ourselves. Sometimes unexpectedly. Sometimes uncomfortably. And sometimes those changes lead us somewhere we could never have planned. For us, one of those changes eventually led to Curry Kart. It wasn't the business we had imagined building. But looking back, perhaps that's exactly what makes this story ours.
Starting Again
Before Curry Kart, our lives looked very different.
I had spent years working in media and production, while Farah followed her passion for education and teaching. When we came to the UK, we were building a new life for our family while continuing along those familiar paths.
Then circumstances changed. There came a point when we had a choice: keep looking backwards at what had changed, or take everything we had learned and build something new. Starting again is rarely comfortable. There are doubts. There are mistakes. There are days when you wonder whether you've made the right decision. But there is also something powerful about a new beginning:
You get to decide what you build next.
For us, that became Curry Kart.
A Memory That Never Left Us
The idea itself came from something much simpler. When we moved away from India, there were obvious things we knew we would miss — family, friends, familiar places and, of course, the food. But we also missed something we hadn't really appreciated until it was no longer part of our everyday lives.
The neighbourhood kirana.
The place where you went for atta and somehow came home with five other things. Where fresh coriander and vegetables arrived, familiar brands filled the shelves and conversations happened across the counter. Where the person behind the counter might know what you were looking for before you even asked.
It wasn't simply somewhere to buy groceries.
It was part of the neighbourhood. It felt familiar. It felt like home.
During our own new beginning, we started wondering whether we could create a little of that feeling here. A modern Indian grocery store with the familiarity of the traditional kirana, but with the convenience today's families need.
That idea became Curry Kart — our family-run Indian grocery store in Bournemouth.
Our Family, Serving Yours
On 1 January 2026, Curry Kart opened its doors in Bournemouth.
We started small.
Every shelf mattered. Every product mattered. And every customer who walked through our doors mattered. That hasn't changed. We're still an independent family business, and many of the decisions we make come down to one simple question:
Would we be happy buying this for our own family?
We carefully choose the products and suppliers we work with, listen to what our customers are asking for and continue developing our range around the foods people actually cook, eat and enjoy.
Because Curry Kart may sell groceries, but we don't want it to feel like just another grocery store. We want it to feel personal. We want people to feel comfortable asking us for something. And we want the relationship with our customers to matter as much as what's sitting on our shelves.

The Indian Kitchen We Know and Love
Indian food isn't one cuisine.
It changes from state to state, city to city and family to family. The dal one family grew up eating can be completely different from the dal cooked in another home. The masala changes. The rice changes. The snacks change. And that's what makes an Indian grocery store so interesting. At Curry Kart, we're building a range around the foods that make Indian kitchens what they are.
Atta and flours. Rice and dals. Masalas and spices. Pickles and chutneys. Indian snacks and sweets. Frozen favourites. Fresh Indian vegetables. Chai, drinks and everyday household essentials.
Some are products you buy every week without thinking twice. Others stop you in your tracks because you haven't seen them for years. And suddenly there's a memory. A school lunch. Your mother's kitchen. Tea at your grandparents' house. A festival. A journey home. That's something we never want to lose as Curry Kart grows. Because food isn't only about what we eat.
It's also about where it takes us.

We want Curry Kart to be useful whether you have been cooking Indian food your entire life or are discovering it for the first time. That's why we're gradually building more than shelves of products. Through our recipes and Kitchen Secrets, we want to share the food, ideas and everyday cooking that sit behind the ingredients we sell. Sometimes you know exactly what you need. Sometimes you know what you want to cook but aren't sure which ingredients to buy. And sometimes you simply need inspiration for tonight's dinner. We want Curry Kart to help with all three. Because ultimately every bag of atta, packet of masala and bag of rice on our shelves has the same destination: Someone's kitchen.
From Bournemouth to Your Door
Curry Kart began as a small Indian grocery store in Bournemouth, but we never wanted distance to determine who could shop with us.
Our physical store at 1215 Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, BH7 6BW serves customers from Bournemouth and surrounding communities looking for Indian groceries, fresh Indian vegetables, frozen foods, spices, snacks and everyday essentials.
But modern life is busy. You shouldn't always have to make a special journey because you've run out of atta, forgotten the coriander or suddenly decided tonight is Dosa night.
So we built Curry Kart to work beyond our shop doors.

When we look back, Curry Kart began during a chapter of our lives when we weren't entirely sure what came next. What started as uncertainty became an idea. The idea became a little shop in Bournemouth.
The shop became a website.
And gradually, orders started travelling beyond Bournemouth to homes elsewhere in the UK. But the part that matters most isn't how far an order travels. It's what happens when it arrives. A family cooks dinner. Someone makes the food they grew up eating. A student living away from home finds something familiar. Someone tries an Indian recipe for the very first time. Or a customer opens their delivery and discovers the product they've been searching for. Those small moments are what we're building Curry Kart around.
Every customer who walks through our doors. Every family placing an order. Every person who recommends us to someone else. And every message that begins:

They're all helping shape what Curry Kart becomes.
Every Beginning Starts Somewhere
Ours started with a family, an uncertain chapter and a decision to build something new.
Curry Kart is still young. There is much more we want to do, more products we want to bring to our customers, more places we want to reach and many things we still have to learn. But however much Curry Kart grows, we want to remember where it began. With the feeling of a neighbourhood kirana. With the food we missed.
With family. And with the belief that sometimes an unexpected change isn't the end of the story.
